- This partnership will transfer a selected library of EA games and their EA Access subscription service to Steam.
- Before we get started on what that means for The Sims 4 and its packages, let’s talk briefly about the Steam platform.
- Like Origin, Steam is a Web + client platform that you can use to purchase games and start using the Steam client program. Similar to Origin, Steam keeps track of your hours of play, achievements, and more. This platform also offers a workshop where you can download and download custom mods and creations for different types of games.
- One example is the Cities Skylines Steam Workshop, loaded with custom content and mods that can be easily implemented in-game with Steam. While this has not yet been confirmed, we can also expect the same requirements for The Sims 4 and its packs. New players who first purchase The Sims 4 via Steam should create and link their Origin / EA account to play the game.
- Another useful feature would be Steams Workshop, which allows you to submit and download mods and custom content for different games. This feature has not been confirmed for The Sims 4 and we do not know if it will be available for The Sims 4 after its launch, but an addition like this would provide many opportunities for the entire community.
- Using online features like “The Gallery on Steam” shouldn’t be a problem as Origin runs silently in the background. The entire gallery is based on the players and their original identifiers. So we still have to check if it stays that way.
- Overall, it’s good to see that The Sims 4 is no longer only available for Origin and that longtime Steam users can also enjoy the game.
