Ahead of the BAFTA Game Awards, Bethesda boss Todd Howard shared his thoughts on the most important and influential video games of all time. He made a clear distinction between the two categories, highlighting games with historical significance and those that had the greatest impact on the gaming industry.
According to Howard, the most important games are Tetris and Pac-Man, as they introduced a massive audience to video games and played a crucial role in shaping the industry. As for the most influential titles, he pointed to Super Mario Bros. and DOOM, which laid the foundation for many genres and trends that continue to evolve today.
Interestingly, DOOM is also linked to Howard’s company, and a new installment, DOOM: The Dark Ages, is set to launch on May 15, 2025.
This year’s BAFTA Game Awards nominees have also been announced, with Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 leading the pack.
