Capcom Will Reimagine the Resident Evil Series with Resident Evil 9 — Fans Can Expect a Groundbreaking Game

The upcoming Resident Evil 9 will not copy its predecessors — Capcom is preparing another massive reimagining of the series, comparable to the release of Resident Evil 4 in 2005 and Resident Evil 7 in 2017. This was revealed by renowned insider Dusk Golem, who concluded that fans can expect a groundbreaking game.

This is why the development cycle of Resident Evil 9 has been so long — Capcom aims to present a fresh perspective on the series.

“Right now, I plan to write more about Silent Hill because I love that series and am eagerly awaiting Silent Hill f. But I know that many are also anxious about the lack of news about Resident Evil. Well, when Resident Evil 9 is revealed, you’ll understand why Capcom has taken so long to announce it.

The reason is that the developers are preparing a major reimagining of the series, similar to what we saw with Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 7. Resident Evil 9 will not be a copy of Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil 8 — Capcom is aiming to refresh the formula, and the new game is very ambitious,” the insider explained.

According to Dusk Golem’s sources, the announcement of Resident Evil 9 is expected before the end of 2025, so fans will soon be able to see the new game for themselves.

“Most likely, the announcement will come this year, so just be patient.”

Capcom confirmed the development of the new Resident Evil in the summer of 2024.

The game’s director is Koshi Nakanishi, who previously led the production of Resident Evil: Revelations and Resident Evil 7. The release of the latter marked a turning point for the series — the game designer spent a long time figuring out the next direction and eventually came up with a worthy idea.

“It was very difficult to figure out what to do after Resident Evil 7. But I found an idea, and honestly, it feels very significant to me,” Nakanishi said.

Earlier, Dusk Golem revealed the protagonist of Resident Evil 9.

According to the insider, the main character of the next numbered Resident Evil will not be Ethan Winters, but franchise veteran Leon S. Kennedy, who will return as the protagonist after Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4.
