Although the defining features of the RPG genre have become increasingly blurred over the years, we still get plenty of games that fall into this category. In 2025, we can expect a solid lineup of RPGs, and we’ve compiled a list of the most anticipated ones. Naturally, this selection is based on our opinion and available online materials. So don’t be surprised if some of these games turn out to be disappointments, even though they look promising now.
Avowed

Release Date: February 18, 2025
Platforms: PC, Xbox Series X|S
Single-player
Let’s start with a game that is definitely coming out this month—Avowed. Obsidian Entertainment, once known for RPG masterpieces, has had a trajectory resembling BioWare’s in recent years. The studio has been working on two major releases, and Avowed is the first to arrive.
Set in the world of Eora, familiar to fans of Pillars of Eternity, this game moves away from the old-school isometric RPG style and embraces a first-person perspective, dynamic combat, and modern customization options. Developers are particularly proud of the ability to choose character pronouns—though this isn’t exactly the feature RPG fans have been eagerly awaiting.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Release Date: April 24, 2025
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S
Single-player
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 stood out immediately upon its announcement with its unique art style and dark atmosphere. French developers have once again proven their ability to craft visually stunning worlds, and the story promises deep philosophical undertones.
In this dystopian world, a mysterious Artist determines people’s fates each year by drawing a number—the age at which they must die. However, the 33-year-olds refuse to accept their fate and embark on a quest for truth.
The game features turn-based combat inspired by classic JRPGs, but the big question remains: will the gameplay mechanics live up to the stunning visuals? We’ll only find out after its release. For now, it stands out as one of the most intriguing RPGs of the year.
Gothic 1 Remake

Release Date: 2025
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S
Single-player
It’s been a while since we had any major updates on the Gothic 1 Remake—but here’s some fresh news! Alkimia Interactive has finally moved past showing off dull renders and revealed key details. This is not just a remaster but a significantly expanded version of the classic.
Developers have added 30% more content, including previously cut elements. The combat system, dialogues, and mechanics have been completely overhauled, but the freedom of choice and immersive world-building remain untouched.
However, fans remain cautiously optimistic—will the remake preserve the classic Gothic atmosphere without losing its unique charm? That will depend on how well the developers understand the essence of the original game. Regardless, the anticipation is high, and we can only hope they deliver.
The Outer Worlds 2

Release Date: 2025
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S
Single-player
Obsidian isn’t stopping at Avowed—we’re also getting The Outer Worlds 2 in 2025. The first game wasn’t revolutionary, but fans appreciated its trademark humor and world-building. However, deep RPG choices were mostly absent, even if quests sometimes offered multiple solutions.
The sequel promises “more of the same, but bigger”—a new protagonist, a new mystery involving ominous rifts, and humanity’s survival at stake. Will there be real, impactful choices? Will players decide the fate of civilization? For now, there are no clear answers. Let’s hope Obsidian remembers that RPGs thrive on meaningful decision-making.
Titan Quest 2

Release Date: 2025
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S
Co-op: Up to 4 players
Action RPGs like Diablo are often categorized as RPGs, and Titan Quest 2 is no exception. Grimlore Games has been silent for a while, and a major leak last fall revealed an early alpha build. Unfortunately, the game looked very unfinished, making a 2025 release (even in Early Access) seem unlikely.
The story once again pits players against the Olympian gods, featuring mythological monsters, tons of loot, and extensive build customization. The developers promise non-linear storytelling, expanded progression systems, and a deep skill arsenal, but we’ll have to wait and see if these ambitions come to fruition.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2

Release Date: 2025
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S
Single-player
This long-suffering project by The Chinese Room has been an absolute nightmare for Paradox Interactive. In fact, they claim Bloodlines 2 will be their first and last attempt at publishing an RPG. Given its development hell, studio changes, and widespread skepticism, it’s no surprise.
Fans of the original Bloodlines still hope for a worthy sequel. However, the premise raises some concerns—you play as a 400-year-old vampire who wakes up in modern times. In Vampire: The Masquerade lore, such ancient beings are terrifying overlords, yet here you’re thrown into a power struggle with younger vampires who should be trembling before you. It’s an odd choice, to say the least.
Despite the skepticism, Bloodlines 2 is still worth keeping an eye on. Hopefully, the final product will prove the doubters wrong.
Rue Valley

Release Date: 2025
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S
Single-player
Russian studio Owlcat Games, inspired by the success of Disco Elysium, is attempting to create a deeply narrative-driven RPG with Rue Valley. However, they don’t intend to copy it outright—instead, they want to deliver something unique and thought-provoking.
The protagonist is trapped in a time loop, reminiscent of Groundhog Day, but with a much darker, psychological twist. Instead of lighthearted antics, expect self-reflection, philosophical dilemmas, and existential dread. The developers promise complete freedom in shaping the main character, allowing players to develop both internal and external attributes.
Fable

Release Date: 2025
Platforms: PC, Xbox Series X|S
Single-player
The legendary Fable series is making a comeback! Originally the brainchild of Peter Molyneux, the franchise faded into obscurity—until now. The reboot is being developed by Playground Games, the studio behind Forza Horizon. Yes, a racing game studio is making an RPG. Unexpected, right?
So what can we expect? Details are scarce. The developers have been deliberately vague, only giving us a cinematic trailer that captures the series’ trademark humor and charm. But we still know nothing about gameplay, story, or RPG mechanics.
All we can do is hope for the best—and wait.
